mjsir911hey replaceafill what are your thoughts on semicolons in javascript?11:25
replaceafillmjsir911, can't remember if i have to use them after closing if's...11:26
mjsir911it's very confusing, but from what i've found it seems they almost *never* needed11:26
*** hrodriguez has joined #novawebdev11:27
replaceafillmjsir911, because the browser knows what to do without them?11:27
mjsir911they're just not in the specification as line delimiters11:27
replaceafillmjsir911, well, you should have seen the IE4 days :)11:27
ubuntouristreplaceafill, According to mjsir911, node.js doesn't need them either... from a conversation last week.11:28
mjsir911I'm glad I can just comfortably ignore IE atm11:28
replaceafillubuntourist, yeah, JS is evolving to be more developer friendly11:28
replaceafillif they could only fix the typing system...11:28
mjsir911idk about deciding semicolons vs not semicolons, but reading is here: https://mislav.net/2010/05/semicolons/11:29

ubuntouristhrodriguez, Good morning11:31
mjsir911I'm not sure if jelkner will be joining us today11:31
replaceafillmjsir911, +111:31
lelkneralfaroneither am I.11:32
replaceafill(on the remind log)11:32
lelkneralfarowell, I don't have anything to discuss as a group this week11:32
lelkneralfarobut, did did my email go out? I haven't sent out an email to the google group in a while and am not sure if it went out. 11:33
replaceafilllelkneralfaro, yes11:33
replaceafilllelkneralfaro, i got two different emails in fact11:33
lelkneralfaroreplaceafill, cool. thanks11:33
replaceafilllelkneralfaro, one last night and one this morning11:33
mjsir911I'd like to make a quick PSA that I'm compiling some standards into a [git repo](https://gitlab.com/novawebdevelopment/standards)11:33
mjsir911feel free to modify/improve11:34
lelkneralfaroreplaceafill, yes, I woke up this morning and thought that perhaps the email didn't send because it was coming from my novawebdevelopment address11:34
replaceafilllelkneralfaro, since i haven't heard from Mike from ORA i was thinking the same :S11:34
lelkneralfaroreplaceafill, so I sent the other just in case11:35
hrodriguezI just want to let yolu know that Daniela and I went to the neiborghood yesteday for the novalaciro.organization11:35
ubuntouristDragana made a presentation to the Audiology Department at Gallaudet, pitching our project, and exaggerating what it's capable of. So now I need to try to make THOSE fantasies a reality... ;-)11:35
replaceafillubuntourist, :D11:35
replaceafillhrodriguez, great, how did the survey go?11:36
replaceafillhrodriguez, was the Tendenci form useful at all?11:36
lelkneralfarohrodriguez, yes that's great.11:36
lelkneralfarohrodriguez, and I had the same questions as replaceafill 11:36
replaceafillACTION shuts us and lets lelkneralfaro run the meeting... :/11:36
replaceafillup*11:37
hrodriguezreplaceafill, it was great but most of the people did not want to give us information about them 11:37
hrodriguezand the tendenci was good i think I sumitted around 6 people 11:38
hrodriguezI do know if you someone can check if it works. 11:38
lelkneralfaroreplaceafill, i don't think we need to be so formal :)11:38
replaceafillhrodriguez, it did, i see 8 entries11:39
hrodriguezWe found a lot of people from Africa and the middle east. 11:40
lelkneralfarohrodriguez, that's good news. I'm glad to hear that the feature works and that you got out in the neighborhood getting to know people. 11:41
hrodriguezlelkneralfaro, thanks we are planing to next saturday again. 11:42
lelkneralfarohrodriguez, cool :). I'm looking forward to hearing more about it. 11:42
lelkneralfarowell... as I said, nothing new to share for discussion from me, and I think everyone is working away on their projects11:43
lelkneralfaroso unless anyone else would like to share something with the group that you want us to know about or discuss11:44
lelkneralfaroI'll wrap up the meeting11:44
lelkneralfaro311:45
lelkneralfaro211:45
lelkneralfaro111:45
lelkneralfaroACTION drops the bag of gravel11:45
replaceafill011:45
replaceafill:)11:45
replaceafillthanks everybody11:45
mjsir911hey zOnny can you read private messages on irc?11:45
mjsir911yea thanks for the quick meeting :P11:45
hrodriguez:) 11:45
ubuntouristmjsir911, You're liking the rst more than the md on GitLab... Any special reason?11:46
lelkneralfarothanks everyone talk to you all soon :)11:46
zOnnyyep, mjsir911 11:46
mjsir911per jeff's request, I prefer writing markdown11:46
replaceafillhrodriguez, we should discuss your feedback on the survey process with jelkner during the week if possible11:46
mjsir911we can talk more when he is around, but he wants to write the markup in rst11:46
ubuntouristmjsir911, I was looking at the standards. I think this should be put to a co-op vote. ;-)11:46
mjsir911I wholeheartedly agree11:47
replaceafillhrodriguez, jelkner also did some membership signing up and reported a few things we can improve11:47
ubuntouristrst has its place, but github, gitlab, bitbucket, etc do better with md...11:47
replaceafillmjsir911, ubuntourist because of sphinx maybe?11:48
mjsir911yea thats almost definitely the reason, the textbook he is writing is entirely in rst11:48
mjsir911ubuntourist: i think the git hosts do fine with both11:48
ubuntouristreplaceafill, rst for Sphinx, yes. rst for everything, not so much.11:48
mjsir911its just so much easier for me to write markdown on-the-fly11:48
ubuntouristmjsir911, Yeah, I guess.  It's that I see README.md on a lot more repositories than README.rst, is all. 11:50
mjsir911yea markdown was definitely first, but at this point in time both are supported pretty equally11:50
replaceafillubuntourist, it seems like rst is a "python" thing11:50
ubuntouristreplaceafill, mjsir911 well, I guess there's always pandoc. ;-)11:51
replaceafill:D11:51
replaceafilllatex!11:51
replaceafill:)11:51
mjsir911lol yea, set it up to just convert any README.md to README.rst on write and vice-versa on read11:51
ubuntourist(I've been using pandoc to convert some of my md files to mediawiki when I want them in both a git repo and on the HacDC wiki.)11:52
hrodriguezreplaceafill, perfect I'm gonna talk to Jelkner tomorrow 11:52
replaceafillhrodriguez, thanks11:52
mjsir911ACTION considers that not actually being a bad idea... just some git hooks & everythings standardized in whatever markup language you want11:52
replaceafillok, see you later everybody o/11:53
mjsir911cya11:53
replaceafillACTION goes grocery shopping11:53
hrodriguezbye bye everyone :)11:54
lelkneralfarobye :)11:54
ubuntouristmjsir911, I haven't tried md <--> rst, rst <--> md.  Are there caveats? Or is pandoc good enough to catch everything?11:54
mjsir911between the two formats I havent seen any11:55
ubuntouristI know I had a few glitches with md -> mediawiki.  Nothing major, but there were spots where I had to be a bit more careful with my md.11:55
mjsir911rst is big enough and md can fall back to html that it seems to work 100%11:55
mjsir911I think rst can fall back to html too11:55
mjsir911although I can say latex -> anything doesnt work very well because it doesnt actually fire up the TeX compiler11:55
ubuntouristI mean, pandoc looked at the md and misinterpreted / mistranslated some stuff. I forget what now.11:56
mjsir911ah I see11:56
mjsir911I guess thats going to happen with all the md derivatives11:56
ubuntouristI think the fix was to make sure I had an extra blank line after (or before) some stuff...11:57
mjsir911ah of course11:57
mjsir911very intuitive11:57
ubuntouristWhatever it was, it was trivial.11:57
ubuntouristAnyway, time to do boring chores like laundry...11:58
ubuntouristLater all.11:58
mjsir911cya11:58
